How To Clean Baseboards

Keep those baseboards clean!

Baseboards in homes are frequently disregarded or just completely forgotten about. Over the years, they can easily become dirty and marked up. Not only will they look terrible, but they will collect unwanted germs that will spread throughout your home. Here are some things you can do to keep your baseboards nice and clean. All of these methods are quick and easy.

Wipes Are Your Friend

Most people keep their kitchen clean by wiping countertops and other surfaces down. You should do the same thing with the baseboards in your home. If you are willing to spend some money, you can go to your local grocery store and choose from the vast variety of disinfecting wipes they offer. If you don’t want to spend additional money to clean your home, you could also make your own cleaning solution using household ingredients. You could easily take some vinegar and mix it with some dish soap, then use that with a sponge to wipe down your baseboards.

Use Your Vacuum

The next time you have the vacuum out, break out an attachment and use it on the baseboards of the rooms of your house. Ensure that you are getting all the nooks and crannies because it is easy to overlook places. This is especially true behind furniture, curtains and large appliances. If you don’t have a vacuum or one that has an attachment, you can opt for some sort of broom and a dustpan.

Other Steps You Can Take

In addition to cleaning your baseboards, you also want to protect them if you can. One way of doing this is by using dryer sheets. All you have to do is take one and rub it on your baseboards to prevent dirt from sticking to them in the future. In addition to protecting them, you can also use an eraser to get rid of any scuff marks from your baseboards.
