3 Benefits of PVC Trim

Discover several benefits of pvc trim.

There are many reasons why wood has been a preferred material for building, particularly because of its ease of manipulation. Wood can be cut, trimmed, painted, and installed with relative ease, but all these benefits exist with PVC as well. Unlike wood, PVC won’t absorb moisture, rot, or be susceptible to insect infestations. Polyvinyl chloride, more commonly known as PVC, is moldable for a wide range of shapes and dimensions, and won’t shrink, crack, or swell. Use it for garage-door trim, door and window frames, and decorative crown molding. Check out these interior tips about the benefits of PVC trim.

Durable

Because of its resistance to environmental factors like moisture, heat, and insects, PVC is known to be an incredibly durable material. It’s also an environmentally friendly product because it doesn’t use any oil-based additives. As a versatile product, it can even be finished to mimic the look of wood but is also available in smooth finishes.

Cost Effective

Using PVC trim is an investment. Although it is more expensive initially than wood, you will end up saving overtime because of its durability and resistance to environmental factors. It much less maintenance than wood and will not need to be replaced at the same rate as wood trim options. When it comes to installation, industry experts have estimated that labor costs for installing PVC are about 10 to 50 percent lower than that of wood installation.

Similar Techniques

Most of the tools that you would use to cut wood are the same for cutting PVC trim, including pneumatic nailers and miter saws. For even better results, consider also using carbon-tipped blades that have been lubricated with a normal spray furniture polish. Industry experts also recommend using circular saws that reduce dust and equipped with HEPA vacuum extraction. Use galvanized finishing nails, which should be placed 12 inches on center and ¾ an inch from the edges. Miter cuts should be made at 45-degree angles. Prevent gaps by using a high-quality instant glue or PVC cement.
