How to Maintain Baseboards and Molding

It’s important to maintain your molding to keep your business looking sharp.

It isn’t the most fun part of running a business, but baseboards need to be cleaned to keep a business looking tidy. Not only does the appearance look better when baseboards are clean, but the room is physically cleaner because it will have less dust floating around. Let’s take a look at some of the best tips to maintain baseboards and molding.

Establish a Routine

Realistically, every business owner would love to clean all the baseboards in their business in one day. Of course, this isn’t realistic, and it quickly becomes so overwhelming that some business owners just give up on ever trying to get their baseboards and molding cleaned. But when you establish a realistic routine, you will be able to clean the baseboards and molding. One good way to start is by cleaning baseboards when other cleaning is taking place in your business. Since your staff should already have most of the cleaning supplies out already, it makes it a lot easier to finish a cleaning routine with the baseboards and molding at the end of a cleaning list. So instead of just trying to clean all your baseboards right away, have your staff work on sections after the normal cleaning routine is finished. That way, cleaning baseboards and molding becomes much more manageable. You’ll be able to do it on a consistent basis this way.

Start Cleaning Baseboards with a Vacuum

When your staff starts to clean your baseboards, make sure they have a vacuum out. They need to remove as much dirt and dust as possible from the baseboards and molding. If the vacuum has a brush attachment, have your staff use it for the hard to reach places like crevices where the trim meets the floor. A duster can be used as well, but a vacuum with an attachment is much more efficient.

Remove Grime

After the dust and dirt are gone, it’s time to focus on grime and stains. Have your staff use a sponge, and they should dip it in a mixture of warm water and soap or vinegar and soap. Then, they should scrub all the visible marks. If the baseboards are stained and not painted, you may need to order a special cleaning solution that is specifically formulated for cleaning stained baseboards.

Protect Baseboards & Molding

Once your baseboards are clean, your staff can rub them with a dryer sheet. This will leave a fresh scent, and the antistatic properties of the sheet will actually repel dust. This extra step will really help keep your baseboards and molding clean.
