Tips for Designing an Office Reception Area

4 Important Considerations for Selecting the Right Furniture for Your Office

Learn how to design a productive reception space.

The first section of every office that visitors and guests encounter is the lobby or reception area. The design of this part of the office will reflect a lot about your business, including the impression that you want to give your visitors. Not only should it be beautiful and welcoming, but it should be functional as well. Here are some tips for designing an office reception area.

Comfort

In office design, it’s all about creating a space that facilitates productivity and boosts company morale. For the reception area, you want to create an atmosphere that makes all your guests and visitors feel welcomed and comfortable. With that said, you want to make sure that you have ample seating available. Be sure that they are accommodating of people of different sizes and that they feature a good balance of cushion and structure. In addition, make sure that all your reception-area furniture is always clean and smells fresh.

Receptionist

If your reception area is staffed by a receptionist of other customer service representative, make sure that they have access to all the tools and resources they need to be effective in their positions. Their desks should be clear of clutter and well organized. If they are tasked with paging other employees to the front to welcome guests, make sure that their equipment is functioning properly.

Technology

Speaking of equipment, a great tip for your office reception area is to modernize it. Provide technology that your guests can use while they wait. Consider installing charging ports for their smart devices and granting access to your office Wi-Fi connection. Depending on the type of office, you may even consider installing a television, small activity corner for children, or a computer terminal so that people can access the internet or check their email.

Lighting

If the building in which your office is located has access to ample natural light, take advantage of that. Allow the light to stream in through the windows. If not, make sure that you provide ample lighting with wall fixtures and overhead lighting. Ample lighting makes a space feel bigger, look more professional, and offer a greater feeling of warmth.
