The Top Signs You Need Commercial Wood Refinishing

Properly maintained hardwood is a treasure for any commercial space. In our city, the interiors of many buildings are blessed with historic wood. While hardwood is a surprisingly durable material, it will begin to show signs of age as the years go on. But this doesn’t mean it can’t be saved. One of the best ways to rejuvenate old hardwood is refinishing. Here are some of the top signs that you might need commercial wood refinishing.

The Top Signs You Need Commercial Wood Refinishing

Hardwood is a surprisingly durable material, but it will begin to show signs of age eventually. Commercial wood refinishing can bring it back to life.

Splintering

Splintering is a common sign of aging hardwood. It can be a huge problem when it crops up on your hardwood floors. While you aren’t likely to have any barefoot visitors in your commercial space, it’s still a surefire sign that you could use some refinishing.

Fading

Do you suspect that your hardwood doesn’t have the color it used to? If it’s been a while since the last time you invested in commercial wood refinishing, then this probably isn’t just in your head. A number of factors can cause hardwood to fade—chief among them, sunlight. You probably won’t notice its color fading with each passing day, but its impact can be considerable as time goes on.

Graying

You might think that ‘graying’ is the same thing as fading. In fact, if you notice a distinct gray color forming on your hardwood, this is probably not due to sun damage, but to water. Water is the chief enemy of hardwood of all kinds. Obviously, issues with water damage are most common on hardwood floors. But they can manifest on millwork, too, if you have issues with leaking pipes or excess humidity.

Scratches or Gouges

If you notice scratches or gouging in your hardwood, commercial wood refinishing might be the solution. No matter how careful you are with your wood, as the years go by, it’s practically inevitable that it will experience some trauma. For simple scratches, wood refinishing will render them invisible. On larger gouges, however, more advanced restoration methods may be necessary.

You Aren’t Happy with How It Looks

Sometimes, even if you don’t notice any of the signs of hardwood in need of refinishing we listed above, you just aren’t happy with how it looks. This can be for reasons that are hard to put into words. But you shouldn’t give up on your historic wood. You’d be amazed just how much a little commercial wood refinishing can do for the appearance of your hardwood.
